WORLD PERCUSSION

WORLD PERCUSSION- LEVEL 2
If you are in level 2 world percussion this year, you should already be familiar with the different rhythmic value to the following notes in common time.

WELCOME TO THE WORLD PERCUSSION PAGE
OF THE SUMMIT ACADEMY MUSIC BLOG
You are welcome to use the videos below to  practice some basic rhythms,
however, I encourage you to utilize Schoology to practice all of your ensemble music
and log your practice time.

We went over the names and origins of some different drums and talked about two important tones you create when playing them, the OPEN TONE and the BASS TONE.  Here is a video you can practice with to build coordination playing some different patterns using both the open tone and the bass tone.  If you don't have a drum, grab a table top, a stool or even a large text book and play along remembering that the bass tone is played using more of the palm located towards the center of the drum and the open tone is played on the edge with your fingers.

You can find this video on YouTube by clicking the link below

visit http://www.seethroughmusic.com/rhythm/
scroll down to the bottom of the page to find audio recordings of the examples I handed out in class.
Play each example and clap along with the notated rhythms below.  Be sure to track your practice time and log it on your practice log.

We will study more complex rhythms in compound meter this year as well as syncopation and mixed meter rhythms.  If you need to brush up on the above rhythms you can get some practice at the link below and selecting the top row of rhythm patterns to practice with.  You can practice using method A and/or method B:
Just go to this website and choose method A or method B.

Here is an Image of the Pan Drum so you can think through where the notes are as you practice
Students will take their exploration and creation of sounds and rhythms to the next level in this intermediate level percussion class.  Knowledge of music notation will be further enhanced by both dictating and creating rhythms and compositions with both pitched and non-pitched percussion instruments and household objects.  Students will learn how to read percussion music and how to combine different sounds to create a musical presentation and then perform their works twice during the school year. Rhythm will be taught through notation and by rote technique.  Students will have the opportunity create a variety of music in both ensemble and solo playing on a variety of instruments. This group will perform multiple times throughout the year with one major production at the end of the year. Performances and extra rehearsals are required.
